The Stanley Cup Final get underway on Monday as the Tampa Bay Lightning host the Montreal Canadiens in Game 1. The Lightning are fresh off of their Game 7 win over the New York Islanders in the semifinals while the Canadiens are coming off of a Game 6 win over the Vegas Golden Knights.
The defending champion Lightning got all that they could handle in the previous round from the Islanders. Tampa Bay only ended up winning the decisive Game 7 by a 1-0 margin and goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped all 18 shots that he faced. Lightning star forward Nikita Kucherov has been dealing with an upper-body injury, but was able to play 16:29 in Tampa Bay’s Game 7 win. Kucherov currently leads the Lightning in points (27) during the postseason.
Meanwhile, the Canadiens continue to defy expectations and silence critics. Heading into their series against the Golden Knights, Vegas was viewed as an offensive juggernaut that could score a ton of goals against the Canadiens defense. However, the Habss defense held the Golden Knights to just three goals over the final two games, including just one tally in a dominant 4-1 victory in Game 5. Montreal is certainly a team that relies heavily on their defense and strong goaltending from Carey Price.
CBS Sports will be with you every step of the way as the Canadiens and Lightning face off in Game 1.
